The girls went out hard in the first quarter, and the defence put pressure on the Loughborough side. This resulted in a lot of turnovers which the attack capitalised on. We played the short ball game, which caused problems for the Loughborough defence and we ended the first quarter up 13:12!
A change of defence saw Emma Knowles in the WD position, with Kate Bryson coming on at C. WA Alice Sketcher and GA Becky Lloyd worked the ball around the centre and goal third with some quick back and forth passes to move the ball to the circle edge, where the final feed into GS Freya Rowson secured us a goal every time. The defence worked hard; and GD Ocean Haward and GK Riley Lovegrove fought for every single ball. We finished the quarter 31:22 to Loughborough.
The third quarter we continued to fight for every ball, and Ocean even ended up in the floor in a tussle for the ball! The centre court made use of the channels and opened up the Loughborough defence in the centre third, and quick passing saw us secure the ball into the D. The short ball game was always backed up by Sarah Kehoe, who made sure she was always ball side to help. The defence began to double on Freya, which enabled Becky and Alice to work the ball closer to the post. The quarter finished 47:29.
In the final quarter, Catrin Williams came onto the court in the WA position and Lucy Ritson went to WD. Ocean moved back to GK and Sarah Kehoe went to GD. Lucy got some great tips on the Loughborough centre pass, which causes them to make mistakes down the court. Ocean stuck right to her GS and forced her to come out of the D. Catrin and Emma worked together to move the ball quickly down the court and Freya held her own against the double marking of the GD and GK. Injury resulted in Catrin moving to GA and Kate coming in at WA. Superb feeds from Kate saw Freya receive the ball from anywhere in the goal third, and she slotted the goals away. Catrin’s movement really opened up the court and make some fantastic shots.
We finished the game 64:42.
