This week Warwick 3’s headed over to Wolverhampton to play their 1st team. We knew the team was going to be physical, but we were determined to persevere, with our fitness up and a few new combos since the last time we played them.
Wolverhampton's shooting was accurate and their defense relentless, but we kept our heads up and continued to play our own game, we weren’t shaken.
Defensively we had a stormer with interceptions throughout the court on both ends, illustrating our commitment to the game, we were determined to not give up. There were some very notable interceptions made by Keri and Maisy continuously throughout the match.
Despite the loss of Lakey to an injured ankle part way through the 2nd, we started the 3rd quarter strong, with advice ‘to give what you receive'. We held our ground and our heads, making slightly more progress in the 3rd quarter. Umpiring decisions didn't seem to go our way this week, but the girls kept fighting. There were some excellent drives up the court from Lauren and there was always Izzie as backup to support to the attack, which was a big help in keeping the flow of the game.
The last quarter saw some absolutely brilliant shooting by Riya, who despite adversity with a GK double her height and arms in her face, her shooting didn’t falter, getting shots in from the circle line, motivated and uplifting the entire team! Making her a very deserving girl of the game!
Although we didn’t win, we fought hard, kept our heads up and played our own game. The score certainly doesn’t reflect the way we played.
Final Score: 35-17
Girl of the Game: Riya
Players Player: Maisy
