Last week Warwick 3’s had a tough match against Nottingham Trent 4’s. Although we had a late start, taking the first centre at 8:15pm, the girls were ready to take on what we expected to be a competitive game.
We started off strong, with some great movements from our centre court players. The opposition were fast, so we didn’t want to throw balls away unnecessarily, so we slowed it down and made sure our ball placement was on point to avoid interceptions. Cammy and Elsa worked well together when moving the ball down the court, making it easier to feed the ball to the shooters in the attacking D.
After focusing on communication in recent training sessions prior to the game, the girls in the defensive third used this development to their advantage, talking to each other throughout the whole game and reading each other’s movements to stop the opposition from getting the ball in the defensive D. Some great interceptions and rebounds made by Sammi and Keri throughout the game, but unfortunately, we ended the first half on 36-7 to Trent.
Despite falling behind in terms of the score, the girls kept their heads up the whole game and pushed themselves in every single quarter. Trent’s defensive players had height on their side, so Lilymae and Ava had to work extra hard to move quickly and effectively in the D. With some great feeds into the D from Izzie, the girls still managed to get some great shots in. Although the final score was 56-16, the 3’s played extremely well and proved that no matter who our opposition are we will always persevere and play as well as we possibly can. Great game girls!!
