Although we were unsure as to how the other team was going to perform, we were determined to put our hard work from training into practice, especially following on from a very useful session from Sam May the day before.
Cambridge had very good fitness and their ball placement was excellent but when we found our feet and started to play our own game it was neck and neck. Our defense kept tight on their attackers with Sammi especially getting lots of interceptions and giving us some great turnovers.
In the third quarter, after a few changes were made, we really showed our full potential by winning the quarter. Izzie made some great drives in wing defense to bring the ball up the court and the movement in the D grew stronger.
Although we didn’t win the match, we showed a strong fight and didn’t let our heads drop. We started to motivate each other on court which kept us going and the team bonded and played very well. Although Cambridge was a difficult team to beat, we stepped up our play and took on the challenge, leaving the game with more things to focus on in future games. The final score was 55-27 to Cambridge.
Sammi was nominated Girl of the Game by both Cambridge and our team for her excellent defense in the circle and the key interceptions. Well played girls!
