This week Warwick 3’s took on Aston 2’s for the second time this season, bringing back a deserved win with a score of 40-22.
We started off the game with a very strong first half, with centre court working extremely hard from the very first centre pass to turn the ball over and in our possession. Defence were on it from the start, letting in only one goal in the first quarter. The squad’s fitness has improved massively compared to our last game with Aston, proving to work in our favour in all areas of the court. Izzie had an absolute stormer of a game, with very dynamic interceptions forcing a lot of turnovers up in the attacking end of the court, resulting in a well-deserved player's player. With Maisy making some excellent drives down the court, and Lakey always making good tactical movements in the centre third, this set us up to be ahead 21-8 after the first half.
Despite an extremely strong first half, we made sure to maintain our performance in order to keep ahead for the rest of the match. There were some great feeds into the D so the shooters had no trouble getting those shots up, and with great shooting stats from all three shooters, there was no worry about losing our lead. With a lot of support from the sidelines, the motivation and drive on court accelerated after every goal, with excellent fight from the defensive end in particular. Keri and Sammi were on fire, with extremely strong holds to keep their player out of the D. The fourth quarter saw an impressive level of movement and communication between the pair, putting a lot of pressure on the attack and getting the ball back from some impressive rebounds.
Overall it was a very successful game, and everyone really fought for that win from start to finish. All the hard work that the girls have put in has paid off and has set us up in good spirits for next weeks game. Well played gals!
