The team had a very strong start, with the defence and attack turning over lots of balls. WA Alice Sketcher and C Emma Knowles made many key interceptions in the opposition's half and the attack capitalised on these to end the first quarter 15:5.
The second target we set some targets: score 20 and keep the oppositions score within 10. It’s safe to say the girls smashed this, and excellent play from GD Ocean Haward, who got many tips in the defensive circle. The second quarter finished 35:7!
In the 3rd quarter, our newest BUCS 1s member, Catrin Williams, came on at WA and helped to push the score even higher. Kate Bryson took over in the C position, whilst Sarah Kehoe moved to GD and Lucy Ritson came on at WD. We kept the same targets, and the team pushed on, and we worked more on our set plays which were executed perfectly down the court. Excellent feeds from Kate saw the combination of Freya Rowson and Becky Lloyd storm the shooting circle. We ended the quarter 54:17!
In the final quarter, the defence tightened up to ensure Bedfordshire’s score didn’t creep anywhere near the 30 goal mark. The defensive combination reverted back to our dynamic duo, GD Ocean and GK Riley Lovegrove, who got tips everywhere in the final quarter. The hard work of the entire team secured us the win and the final score of 68:24!
The match was incredibly special for us as we were supporting Support Our Paras and every girl playing and supporting on the balcony had camouflage in her ribbon in her hair. This game also saw a collection for this charity that provide support to ex-army members. Together, we raised £90.
